Implant Dentistry

Dr Michael Chang has a special interest in Dental Implants & he has reinforced his knowledge & skills by obtaining a Masters in Clinical Implant Dentistry.

Dental Implants permanently restore the form, function & appearance of your smile.

They are essentially “screws” that are constructed from titanium alloy, & are placed at the site of tooth loss into the jawbone.
Over time, this integrates with the jawbone & forms a permanent foundation for tooth replacements. The procedure is generally much less traumatic than tooth extractions.

Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, or several missing teeth in the form of fixed partial denture.

Although dental implants are expensive, there are many advantages over traditional restorative procedures like crown & bridge.

The diagram & animation below shows that in order to attach a crown for the crown & bridge, the teeth on either side need to be shaved to allow attachment of the crown. This means that you are sacrificing healthy neighboring teeth, which can potentially traumatise the tooth, cause sensitivity, which can lead to problems later down the track.

At Luminous Dental we have our own Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography (CBVT) that allows us to scan and assess patient’s bone quality for implant placement.
